SERVICES

KidSquad works with children and teachers in their classrooms in partnership with their parents to support social emotional growth and to decrease the challenging behaviors in the classroom. KidSquad’s mission is to support teaching efforts to prepare children for school and decrease preschool expulsion through the development of social emotional skill and experiences.

KidSquad offers several services for children, early childhood educators, childcare centers and family home centers. These services are provided free of charge to childcare programs in Douglas and Sarpy counties that accept Title XX. Below is a brief summary of the offered services. Within each service the importance of responsive nurturing relationships and supportive environments is highlighted, in addition to enhanced opportunities for social/emotional growth.

Infant Mental Health (0-18 months)

  • Support teachers in learning new skills and techniques to engage infants in interaction, relationship building, beginning steps of social emotional development and brain development.
  • Support teachers in integrating developmental skills into relationship based play.

Social/Emotional Classroom Referral (Toddlers - Pre-K)

  • Support teachers in increasing their awareness and personal skills to teach and embed social/emotional skills in daily activities.
  • Explore social/emotional goals for classrooms with Program directors and teachers and assist with implementation.
  • Model social/emotional activities and skills that can be used with children in their classrooms.
  • Increase ability to understand challenging behaviors

Individual Child Support

  • Partner together with families and program staff to learn about the strengths of classrooms, children and families.
  • Explore the needs of children, families and program staff.
  • Provide observation and assessment to learn more about the function of behaviors.
  • Partner together to develop a plan of action that includes relationship building, use of engaging learning environments and intentional social emotional teaching strategies. Each plan is individualized specific to classrooms and children.
  • Provide hands on modeling and support for implementation of goals for the child, family and classroom.
  • Provide grants to support purchasing of materials specific to goal attainment.
  • Transition children into Kindergarten.
  • Offer additional in home supports for families, as needed.

Educational Consultation

  • Partner with program staff to enhance learning environments for infant to pre-K classrooms.
  • Support implementation of goals, including modeling and team teaching.
  • Provide grants to support purchasing of materials specific to goal attainment.

Professional Development

  • Professional development opportunities with an emphasis on social emotional teaching strategies; and
  • Approved Continuing Education Unit's (CEU's).
  • Provide registration and salary reimbursement for staff who attend trainings.
  • Offer individualized training to support the specific needs in each program.
